The historic property in downtown Ho Chi Minh City was handpicked for the award from among 500 top hotels in 65 countries that make up the Worldhotels portfolio.
The award capped a year brimming with original initiatives, including a World Environment Day flash-mob on the steps on the Saigon Opera House, a first-place finish in the world’s only cyclo race, the Saigon Cyclo Challenge, and a James Bond-inspired Christmas Gala.
John Gardner, the hotel’s general manager, accepted the award on behalf of the Caravelle’s marketing department in a ceremony at the Rey Juan Carlos I Hotel in Barcelona.
“The Caravelle is a hotel that prides itself on character, and that approach is reflected in all our marketing efforts,” said Gardner. “We hope to carry out even better, bolder strategies in 2013.”
Criteria for the nominations included best use of co-operative branding, active engagement in marketing initiatives and opportunities and alignment with the Worldhotels brand guidelines. The Acme Hotel in Chicago and the Flemings Deluxe Frankfurt Riverside were among the regional nominees considered for the global award.
