Electricity price increases by 5%
The price of electricity was raised by 5% to VND1,508.85 per kWh, pursuant to a circular issued by the Ministry of Industry and Trade on July 31.
According to the Electricity of Vietnam (EVN), the price adjustment was made to compensate for the rise in coal and gas prices. The prices for various types of coal have increased by 37-41% since April 20, while petrol prices have risen four times since the beginning of the year.
The price escalation chart and the price for low-income people who use less than 50kWh per month remain unchanged at VND993 per kWh, according to EVN.
Households exceeding 100kWh per month will have to pay VND6,800 extra per month. They will be charged an additional VND10,650 and VND15,500 when using 150 kWh and 200 kWh per month, respectively.
The surcharge will rise to VND26,000 and VND37,200 per month for the consumption of 300 kWh and 400 kWh.
The most recent price hike of 5% was made in December 2012.
